You're not supposed to be able to get tattoo'd before you turn 18 but I know some places accept parental/guardian consent if you're over 16.
18 throughout the whole of the UK.
usually 18 but i was 15 when i got my first tattoo
In the UK the law is very clear, 18 is the minimum age for a tattoo. With or without parental consent. (in other words even with the consent of your parents, the minimum age is still 18.)
You have to be 18 to get a tattoo in the UK, there are no exceptions. Chris
As Scotland is part of the UK, their tattoo parlours should be under the same laws as English ones, thus even with a parental consent form, you'll be waiting until you're 18 to get your tattoo :)
Not in the UK you can't ! It's ILLEGAL in the UK for anyone to give a tattoo to someone under 18. They can be fined, imprisoned, lose their licence... or all three !
minimum age is 18
Call your local tattoo shop and talk to their piercer they can tell you the age. In most states (assuming you live in the U.S.) you need to be 18 to get a piercing without parental consent and you also need to be 18 for any genital piercings (girls need to be 18 to get nipple piercings). In the UK there is no legal age of consent for body piercing. Anyone can consent to body piercing but individual tattoo and piercing establishments often set their own rules. There is one exception to the rule and that is that the age of sexual consent is 16 in the UK and this means that you have to be over 16 to have genital (or female nipple) piercings as otherwise it would be legally sexual assault. The age of consent for tattoos in the UK is 18.
This previous answer was incorrect. ("The legal tattoo age for the UK is sixteen with parental consent. " Some tattoo parlours may ask for proof of age as it is their parlour on the line for illegal tattooing, which is why quite a few tattoo parlours only tattoo people who are eighteen and over, and quite often the people who will tattoo sixteen year olds are quite unhygenic places that only tattoo people so young because they need the money as their parlour is an unreputable business and has hygiene issues. )It is against the law in the UK ( including the Isle of Man) to tattoo anyone under 18 with or without parental consent unless it is for specific medical reasons. See:"Tattooing Of Minors Act 1969"Prohibition of tattooing of minors. It shall be an offence to tattoo a person under the age of eighteen except when the tattoo is performed for medical reasons by a duly qualified medical practitioner or by a person working under his direction."
