This really depends upon the type of pollution. There are water borne diseases such as cholera, which can be present in polluted water and can infect people. There are toxic substances such as lead and Mercury which can be present in polluted water and poison people. There are many other types of pollution as well.

There are several. Some common disease you can get from drinking unclean water are Giardia, Typhoid, Typhus, Cholera, and Salmonella.

You can also get Legionnella from inhaling mist from unclean water.
