Sure! You can get fired from any job.
However, if it's a union plant, you need to have done something wrong to get fired. A union will keep a good worker from getting fired just because the boss doesn't like him; it won't keep a bad worker from getting fired for a hazardous act.
I think you mean the company will be on fire due to the chemicals they are manufacturing? then the answer is it is unlikely. All the production plant will have strict regulations to prevent any disaster and they wont let you fire the whole industry.
If someone has consistently poor job performance, they may get fired from their job. It is important to be at work on time and do a good job, in order to stay employed.
you could do a research job
Scope is great! It is basically a field where the job profile varies from field work e.g. plant operation including refineries, chemical industry, fertilizers industry etc; to design and development e.g. plant troubleshooting, revamp, Comp. aided process and plant design, control engineering etc. etc. (list is very long). For girls CAD, control engineering, and troubleshooting and revamp kind of jobs (typically named as technical services) are well suited. Operation jobs are rather rough and tough jobs requiring shift duties and plant visits during odd hours, in case of any emergency. Hope I have provided a to-the point brief answer. In case of any detail needed please mail me at jassa28@yahoo.co.in. ( I am a senior chemical engineer in design area) Best of luck.
The average man cannot "help" make nuclear power. Once the plant is online, there is a crew hired by the owner of the plant to run it. I guess you could apply for any job openings at your nearest plant.
The fields are completely different. Chemical engineering is taking raw materials and processing them into finished products using the most cost effective inputs. Architecture is essentially making buildings and structures look appealing. The job market for chemical engineers is very strong (at least in the U.S.) because the baby boomers are retiring. The job market for architects is more cyclical and depends on housing demand. See also the article from CNNMoney linked below.

Those who get fired leave the job because the boss demands it.
