Fish are classified into three types depending on what they eat.

The three classifications are:

1. Herbivores - These fish eat plant material only. They are usually bottom feeders and will eat the algae in your tank. These should be fed algae tablets.
2. Omnivores- Fish of this classification will eat both plant material and meat. These fish can survive on fish flakes and algae.
3. Carnivores - These fish will eat meat only and should not be put in a tank with other fish. If you have one of these you would want to get feeder fish from your pet store such as gold fish.

Angelfish ( Pterophyllum sp ) are predators/hunters in the wild. They eat small fish, insects, larvae etc. In captivity they will eat most good quality dried flake food. If you want them to do well and be really colourful and healthy it is always good to give them live food such as daphnia/whiteworms/brineshrimp etc at least once a week.

I have Tropical Angelfish and I feed them just dry fish flakes. Most Tropical Fish will eat the dry fish flakes as long as the can says "Tropical Fish Flakes".

yes it's considered a treat to feed a variety of different flake foods, granules, algae, dry bloodworms ,wafers the real treats are fresh veg ie: lettuce & peas (etc) live bloodworms, frozen bloodworms, brine shrimp or live plants or mosses,

for the larger fish the ultimate treat would be live fish (feeder fish)
