Although Trust Points are intended to be for outstanding answers, you can award a contributor a Trust Point for asking a good question, or any other community activity.
Trust pointsIn theory, asking questions can cause someone to recommend you through your profile, which gives you a trust point. In general, though, trust points are awarded by other users based on the quality of your contributions to answers. No user earns any trust points without another user recommending him or her. Just asking a question or contributing to the answer doesn't grant anybody a trust point.
No. Ask a real question.
If someone reads your response to the question - and feels that it (a) answered the question accurately, (b) was funny or (c) was helpful, they can award a 'trust point'. However - trust points are in no way an indication that the answer is accurate. Users should always seek confirmation of the answer from another source.
You can vote a trust point for yourself! Which means you can vote without any reason. And there is no reason that someone can't vote for a friend whether they have answered a question or not.
When someone answers your question, a message is sent to your registered email address - the same happens if you get a comment on your message board, or someone awards you a trust point.

When you register on WikiAnswers you submit your email. When you receive a trust point, you also receive an email stating that you have received a trust point. The username or IP address who gave you the trust point will not be included however. You can also look on your profile page and see the trust point count.
