In cats, the majority of upper respiratory infections are viral infections, so antibiotics are not effective to clear up the infection. However, sometimes cats get secondary bacterial infections. For these infections, if antibiotics are going to be used, the typical medication is amoxicillin or another penicillin-class drug.

Generally speaking, a vet will start by prescribing Clavamox (amoxycillin), a moderately powerful antibiotic. If it is ineffective, he will try different antibiotics to find one which resolves the problem. Dosage varies based on the cat's condition and size, it is never a good idea to try and determine dosage yourself.

A veterinarian will usually start by prescribing Clavamox (amoxycillin). This may not be effective; if not, he may have to prescribe something stronger.

Can you give your cat cranbery juice for a urinary tract infection?

Even if you could get her to drink it, cranberry juice changes the pH of the bladder and helps to prevent a urinary tract infection, but does not stop it, once it's started, and there are visible symptoms. You'll need to see the vet, or swing by a tractor supply store to pick up antibiotics to cure the infection in your cat.

Can you give a cat Bactrim for Urinary tract infection?

To accurately diagnose a urinary tract infection, your cat will need to visit the Vet. The Vet will help you determine the appropriate course of treatment, if necessary. Giving an animal medications without knowing with certainty what is causing the symptoms you're seeing can mask some symptoms and, in the long run, worsen the animal's condition.

Your cat urinates on the counter what do you do?

Can you give human antibiotics to a cat for sneezing?

i wouldnt if i were you.

Is Phenazopyridine safe for use in cats?

No! Phenazopyridine, like all other human medicines, is certainly not safe to give them to pets. It is incredibly easy to overdose a cat, and that can often be fatal. Cats are much, much smaller than humans, so giving a cat human medicine, even in a small amount, is incredibly dangerous. If you believe your cat is suffering from a Urinary Tract Infection or some other bladder problem, take it to the vets immediately. Cats usually contract urinary infections from stress or not drinking enough water and the urine becomes too concentrated. Vets normally give some form of antibiotics to the owner to give to the cat over the course of a week or so to kill off any infection. However, the most important treatment, aside from the antibiotics, is to increase your cat's water intake. Feeding some (or more) wet food and/or providing a water fountain to entice the cat to drink more water are two very good options.

Does your cat have an infection if she is not urinating?

An infection or a blockage. It would be a good idea to contact a vet and get the cat in to be seen as soon as possible. I have included a link on this page called 'Feline Urinary Syndrome'.

Can you give cats azo pills for a uti?

No. Never give a cat human medicine as it will do more harm than good. It is very easy to overdose a cat with pills meant for humans. Cats usually contract urinary infections from not drinking enough water and the urine becomes too concentrated. This can occur if the cat is fed only dry food (a cat has evolved to get moisture from its food and so have a low "thirst drive") or overly stressed. If your cat is male, it is especially vital to make sure he is thoroughly hydrated. Male cats are much more susceptible to urinary tract infections (UTI's).

What do you give a cat for pain and infection?

How do you treat a cat that uti?

Cystitis, or inflammation of the urinary bladder, can be due to several differernt issues. In younger cats, the most likely cause is a bacterial infection, which would be treated with oral antibiotics. In adult cats, bladder stones start becoming more of a problem; these would be treated with surgical removal and a diet change to prevent recurrence. In senior cats, cancer becomes a significant concern; this can be treated somewhat by surgical removal of the cancer and chemotherapy.
