"pink eye" is the name we apply in America to an infection casued by the Hemophilus aegyptius bacterium that attacks the conjuctiva -- the mucous membrane that covers the eye and the inside of the eyelid. As with any infection, tissue damage can occur. And if tissue damage can occur, so can scarring. While not a common result, various degrees of blindness can indeed result. This particular infection is super-contagious, so it's critcally important you (a) treat it and (b) make certain you don't transfer it to others. This means lots and lots of thorough hand washing, not sharing pillows, etc. This one you can't fix at home. There are a few reasons for this. First, bacterial pink-eye is treated with an antibiotic cream or ointment (often Cipro-based, but others work too), which you can't get without a prescription. Another reason is, while I've described Pink Eye, Allergies are sometimes diagnosed as Pink-Eye, and the treatment for them (anti-inflamatories and possibly steroids) may actually exacerbate or make worse a bacterial infection.
Conjunctivitis, or pink eye, is an inflammation of the conjunctiva, the clear mucous membrane that covers the white part of the eyeball and the inside of the eyelid. It is the most common eye infection in the United States. Cases may vary from a mild redness with watery eyes to serious infections where vision is impaired or even lost. What causes conjunctivitis?Conjunctivitis happens when the conjunctiva becomes infected, usually by a virus or bacteria. It also can be caused by allergic reactions or chemical irritations. What are some warning signs or symptoms?Signs of conjunctivitis are red and irritated eyes. If you have conjunctivitis, you may wake up with your eyelashes stuck together from dried mucus formed during the night. The condition often affects both eyes and causes a gritty feeling. Although vision is usually not affected, your eyes may be very sensitive to light. There is a stickiness of the eyelids. In severe cases the eyelids are swollen. Itching is another common symptom.Conjunctivitis can be confused with a more serious eye disease known as iritis. That's why it is important to have your eye problem diagnosed and treated by a qualified eye care professional. How is conjunctivitis treated? It is best to have an examination by your eye care professional to determine the cause and appropriate treatment.Cleaning the crusting on the eyelids every few hours with a cotton swab soaked in lukewarm water usually helps the eye feel better. Antibiotic eye drops, ointments or other medications may also be prescribed.Tinted glasses may relieve discomfort from bright light. They can also provide a cosmetic shield for the reddened and swollen eyes. The eye should not be covered by a patch, however, as this can make the infection worse.
A pink eye is sometimes good, and sometimes bad. Alot of the time people purposly make their eyes pink so that they can fake looking like they didn't sleep so that they don't have to go to school. Getting a pink eye once in awhile is not really bad, but doing it to often is bad for your eyes so it could result in blindness but there is a small possibility that would happen.
"Bloodshot" is just what you call it when your eyes are red and irritated. You can't go blind from just having irritated eyes. There would have to be some sort of disease or injury to go blind.
No. But one may definitely go blind -- and for no reason. Get it looked after, schmuck.

I only know pinkeye on cows.. so here we go: Pinkeye is caused when either dust (possibly flies) ends up in a cows eye. You can tell if your cow has pinkeye if the pupil is white and the eye is surrounded by a pink crust kinda thing. Talk to your vet OR buy some pinkeye stuff. Hope it helped.

Pinkeye, or conjunctivitis, is inflammation of the conjunctiva, the membrane lining the eye.
* "If the pinkeye is caused by a virus, the person can usually return to day care, school, or work when symptoms begin to improve, typically in 3 to 5 days. Medicines are not usually used to treat viral pinkeye, so it is important to prevent the spread of the infection. Pinkeye caused by a herpes virus, which is rare, can be treated with an antiviral medicine. Home treatment of viral pinkeye symptoms can help you feel more comfortable while the infection goes away. * If the pinkeye is caused by bacteria, the person can usually return to day care, school, or work 24 hours after an antibiotic has been started if symptoms have improved. Prescription antibiotic treatment usually kills the bacteria that cause pinkeye." http://www.webmd.com/eye-health/tc/pinkeye-topic-overview Here u go
