If you mean converting an electric stove with coil burners to a smooth, glass cooktop, the answer is no.

There is really no difference, but is more of a personal preference. The flat top is easier to clean.
The danger in using cast iron cookware on a smooth, glass top electric stove is that the cast iron may cause the glass surface to crack. However, plenty of people have reported that they've used their cast iron cookware on glass top stoves with no issues.
I prefer copper for its even heating and elegance...but anything conductible preferably flat and even with the surface :O)

stove top heated the logical reason is that the stove top acts as a heatsink ie it helps prevent the whole cooker body getting too hot
You can transport an electric stove however you wish, make sure to remove the stove top elements and drip trays if your transporting the stove on it's side. I do however suggest lying the unit on it's side or back, you do not want to damage the front.
