For one, it is illegal. Also, your check engine light will be on constantly, as there are sensors contained within the catalytic converter. In some states, this will cause you to fail inspection, and leave you unable to renew your registration.
Agreed, and just removing the cat will play havoc with your downstream O2 sensors and not send the right signal to the ECU to have a correct fuel/air trim, causing very poor performance and economy
It is illegal to bypass the catalytic converter and besides your engine will not run correctly if you bypass or remove the converter.
It is screwed into the exhaust pipe just before the catalytic converter. It is screwed into the exhaust pipe just before the catalytic converter.
There are 2 oxygen sensors. The first is just after the exhaust manifold before it goes into the catalytic converter. The second is after the catalytic converter.
A catalyticÊconverter does not have an effect on a vehicles abilityÊto be driven. A catalytic converter just reduces the green house emissions of the vehicle, so if it is broken the vehicle will just release more emissions.ÊÊ
It can't be cleaned, just replaced and recycled.
One just before the catalytic converter and the other just after the cat converter.
just before the catalytic converter
just ahead of the catalytic converter
Just ask any auto parts store for an OEM style converter.
Under the vehicle, the manifold connects to a "head pipe", and the head pipe connects to a device that just looks like a mufler, but it's not. That's the catalytic converter.
Too rich of an air/fuel mixture of one of more cylinders missing and not completely burning the fuel.
You may have two- one in the exhaust manifold/downpipe, and the other just past the catalytic converter.
