Well, sure you can. But it's not a very good idea because you'll have to have a full-time job in order to live alone, and you will not have time to go to high school AND have a full time job at the same time.

If you have a full-time job and you're still in high school, you may not get home until late at night, and then you'll be too sleepy to pay attention in school.

It would help to know what state you're in, but in most states (there are a few exceptions) 18 is the age of majority. You could always call the local police department and ask them. The contributing factor would be the state's compulsory education laws. Some states require an 18 years old to finish the current school year before they are considered completely emancipated.

Can your parents throw you out of the house if you are 18 and still in high school and not financially ready in New Jersey?

The emacipation age is 18, however, because the person is still a high school student they would have a legal right to reside in the family home. Not being ready is not relevant to the issue. Once the person has graduated from high school the parents can legally request them to move out of the home. If conditions warrant it, the person or parents can petition the Family Court to place the 18 years old in a foster or group home until graduation.

Generally, the obligation ends when the child reaches 18 years of age unless the child is still in high school - in which case the support ends upon the child's graduation from high school, or the child's 19th birthday, whichever occurs first. Child support may continue past that time if the child is disabled and only by court order.
