The emacipation age is 18, however, because the person is still a high school student they would have a legal right to reside in the family home. Not being ready is not relevant to the issue. Once the person has graduated from high school the parents can legally request them to move out of the home. If conditions warrant it, the person or parents can petition the Family Court to place the 18 years old in a foster or group home until graduation.
