Electric menorahs are considered decoration and can be lit with any number of candles at any given time; unless this is your main menorah, in which case it should be lit during Hanukkah, with the blessings, at or after sundown.

Which to light first Hanukkah Candles or Yahrzeit Candle?

If you light the yahrzeit candle before it's time to light the Hanukkah-menorah, you may light the yahrzeit candle first. Otherwise, once it's past sunset, you should wait until about 20 minutes after sunset, light the Hanukkah-menorah, and afterwards light the yahrzeit candle.

How many candles are lit on the menorahs?

For the Hanukkah-menorah, see below. (The Menorah of the Temple, however, has not been in use, and its whereabouts have been unknown, for roughly 1,940 years.)If you're observing the festival of Chanukah, you're probably referring to the8-branched candelabra or chanukiah (Hanukkah menorah).Today (12-10-12) is the 2nd day of Chanukah. The 3rd day begins this eveningwhen the sun sets at your location, and it's then time to light three candles.-- Evening of Tuesday, 12-11-12 . . . . . light 4 candles after sunset-- Evening of Wednesday, 12-12-12 . . . . light 5 candles after sunset-- Evening of Thursday, 12-13-12 . . . . . light 6 candles after sunset-- Evening of Friday, 12-14-12 . . . . . . .light 7 candles some time before sunset, just before the Sabbath candles.-- Evening of Saturday, 12-15-12 . . . . .light all 8 candles some time after twilight, when the Sabbath has concluded.

When is the menora lit?

There was a 7-branched menorah which was lit in the Temple in Jerusalem (Exodus ch.25). After the Greeks desecrated the Temple only a small container of pure olive oil was found and this oil miraculously lasted 8 days until more could be obtained. The festival of Hanukkah commemorates this miracle and also the victory of the Maccabee rebels in their revolt against the Greeks. A special menorah (hanukkiah) with places for 8 candles (+ 1 "service" candle) is lit on each night of Hanukkah. Many people use olive oil instead of candles. After sunset (or later) one candle is lit on the first night, two on the second, etc. On Friday nights, Hanukkah candles are lit before Sabbath candles, and larger candles are used so that they will burn until after dusk for the required time.

When do you take the menorah down?

The tradition is that you light the menorah after nightfall (so that the light is easily seen) and allow the candles to burn down all the way before taking it down. The exception is on erev Shabbat, when you light the menorah shortly before sunset and do not touch the menorah until nightfall the next evening (so as not to violate the Sabbath). Aside from questions of Sabbath observance, there is no tradition requiring that the menorah be displayed when it is not actually holding burning candles.

What do you do before you light the candles on Hanukkah?

You say the blessings over the candles. There are 3 blessings the first night, and 2 on all the subsequent nights.
