What's better is that you can do it safely.It is not safe to lose more than two pounds a week (and you are more likely to re-gain if you do lose more than this recommended amount per week.) If you figure there are 24 weeks in six months and double that you get 48. So you can safely lose up to 48 pounds in 24 weeks.

That said, diet or exercise alone will not achieve long-lasting results. These two must be combined! Focus on living heathfully each day--eat well and get at least 30 minutes of exercise most days of the week. Focus on a lifestyle change, and the pounds will come off!
