You certainly could. Many people would say that you should not. If you do, there is an administrative procedure within the housing authority to appeal the revocation. If that does work, you can appeal to a court.

Will you lose your section 8 voucher if you are evicted on section 8?

If you weren't on Section 8 when you were evicted, yes. If you were on Section 8 (now known as the Housing Choice Voucher Program) and were evicted because of violation of lease or non-payment of rent, you could lose your voucher, something that your Housing Program Coordinator and his supervisor can decide on a case-by-case basis. Let's clarify that an eviction is not a simple note by the landlord asking you to move: it's a court proceeding petitioni9ng a judge or magistrate to force you to move out.

Can you cancel your section 8 housing voucher?

Yes, but do you really want to? It is an entitlement program. Canceling such is a personal decision you must make. But remember, if you do, and you want to return to the program, you will have to rejoin the waiting list when one is next available, which may be a long time, and restart the process.

Can you break your lease on section 8 housing to take care of a sick parent?

Breaking your lease is something that is between you and your landlord, not housing authority. But you must keep in mind: 1. If you break your lease and your landlord takes you to court, and he wins, you will lose your voucher permanently. However, the court may allow you to break your lease based on extenuating circumstances. 2. During the first year of your program you must lease up with your landlord. But once again, under extenuating circumstances, you and your landlord could agree to break up the lease under mutual agreement, wherein you won't lose your voucher. 3. Finally, if you give up your dwelling you give up your voucher. While in this case you might not lose your voucher permanently, when you terminate your tenancy you terminate the voucher for the time being. Once your extenuating circumstances have been resolved you will have to go back on the waiting list if and when it's open, then start the process all over again.

Will section 8 let you move out the state in a emergency?

When you first move into a dwelling with your voucher, you must stay there for at least one year, then you can move. In an emergency, however, you can ask them for an exception to this rule. You need to submit the request in writing, and wait for an answer. Moving out at any time within a leasehold may result in the landlord filing an eviction against you for breaking the lease. If this happens you can lose the voucher. If this happens you may have to sue the Housing Authority to regain the voucher.

How much is a 2 bedroom section 8 voucher worth?

It's a little complicated. The rules for section 8 set a limit to the rent that can be charged by the landlord. This depends on where the apartment is and what is provided in the way of appliances and utilities. Note. In general, if you find a three bedroom unit whose rent is within the limit for a 2 bedroom, the section 8 people won't allow you to take it. If this happens to you, ask the landlord to rent it to you as a 2-bedroom, 2-living room unit. Strangely enough, this is quite legal. Provided you find a home that is within the limit, the housing authority will "means test" you to decide how much you can afford to pay yourself; they will then pay the difference directly to the landlord. You then pay what they didn't. Warning. Take great care to pay your portion. If you don't you will lose your voucher.

Can you get section 8 voucher back after losing it?

you can't get it back once you lose it..you have to apply it again..all over again..unless the decision that was made to terminate your voucher is reversed later on appeal.

If I have a section 8 Voucher and I don't find a home can I lose my voucher?

In short, yes, you can lose your voucher. Normally you are given 60 days from the date of issue to find a home. If you can't find a home you could ask for an extension for one month at a time, but for no more than two months. This makes it a total of 120 days to find a home.
