You certainly can't do it in your basement as a hobby. But walnuts contain carbon, and diamonds are carbon. Theoretically, with enough walnuts, a great deal of time and with MUCH more technology than you would find in your average dwelling, it would not be impossible to get diamonds out of walnuts. The cost of such a project would likely be many times greater than the value of any bits of diamond you end up with.
All is possible. Keep on thinking. ( You would need the strongest compactor ever built, which would cost a lot. Eat the walnuts and make your today count. )
