You need half cup of butter, half cup of sugar, 3 tablespoons of black treacle, and 2 tablespoons of malt vinegar. Start by melting the butter in a heavy saucepan and then add the other ingredients. Next heat to the point the sugar dissolves. Bring to a boil, stirring gently for 10 mintues. Drop a small amount of the mixture in to a saucer of cold water, if it forms a hard ball it is ready.
