Yes, you can merge questions with the same meaning - but only if you are a Supervisor - by clicking on the "Merge" option in the blue sidebar and entering the appropriate information.
After merging, the new answer (if there is one), will reflect answers from both questions. It is recommended that you edit the newly merged Answer page (if necessary), to avoid showing duplicate or false information. Remember to click the "Minor edit" option at the bottom if you aren't adding new content.
If a Supervisor would like help on merging questions, they should contact their Mentor, or review the documentation in the Help Center.
For non-Supervisors, here are some ways in which you can help:
Yes, you can, but you have to become a supervisor first. Over on the left side of your screen there are site tools to help you find out how to become one.
It's when two (or more) questions appear to be asking the same thing. They can be 'merged' into one question so they all get answered together.
No, it is impossible to delete questions on WikiAnswers. If you are a Supervisor, you can merge it into an alternate wording, or trash it, and everything below and more. (Note that trashing is only for harmful questions. Also, merging is only for the same question in a different form.)If you are not a Supervisor, you can recommend a merge, report a merge on a Supervisor's message board, report a question that needs to be trashed, edit and/or move alternates (appropriately) and so on.---Make sure every action you do is appropriate and accurate.Remember, Please follow WikiAnswers Guidelines.
Answers.com does merge similar questions which will have similar answers. Because there are so many ways to ask the same question the community ties to merge these in t one excellent answer thereby allowing the system to find that answer if the question is posted in a way it has recorded previously. The issue comes from poorly created questions which require additional help, often from the supervisors to trace down what exactly they are looking to achieve.. Answers.com will only delete questions that cause harm
Actually, the supervisors spend a great deal of time recatorizing answers. Since we see so many questions, there are a great many repeats and rewording of the same question. Supervisors read each question and merge the same questions together. It is one of the many things that supervisors do. Some questions have as many as 400 different ways to say the same thing! But we do try very hard to make getting information as easy as possible.
Sadly, there is no supervisor power to batch merge questions yet. There is something similar to this, which is the split and merge feature in the 'Edit Alternates' section of any question. You can click that button to split and merge all selected alternates and move them to another question, all at once; however, the question must already be in the alternates to do so.
Regular members may certainly ask to have questions merged. They are encouraged to do so when they run across contributions that are asking the same question. This helps the site supervisors to maintain the integrity of WikiAnswers, and keeps regular members involved. To request questions be merged, do the following: 1. Go to one of the questions. 2. Click on Improve Question. 3. Type the question you want it to be merged with. 4. A popup will appear asking if you want to merge the questions. To request 2 locked questions be merged, simply copy the URL's of both questions and paste them into an email to Supervisor @ wikianswers.com (be sure to remove the spaces).
Because there is so many people trying to understand what is the goal of this. There thinking this is a perfectly good joke when people who have a degree in this stuff are wasteing there own time. This is why we have the Merge Option. Eventually all the Question's will be able to merge into one.
It looks like you are combining all your questions with similar, but different questions. Try to word you question clearly so that people can help you better, and don't blame the website if you merge your questions incorrectly.
The meaning of WikiAnswers is so people can ask questions and others can answer them. I think that more people are asking questions (which is fine) but not many people are willing to answer them.
Merge Cells
As of now, you do not get a contribution point for recommending a merge. So, no (at least not yet).
There is a huge amount of questions on the site. So it isn't always possible to know that the question has already been answered. Questions asked with the exact same wording, will be merged into existing questions. If a new form of wording comes in, less experienced users may just answer it. Experienced users and supervisors will look to merge it. You could also ask why do people ask questions that have already been answered? In the same way, they don't know it has been asked already and if they use a new wording, they won't find the question, so they will think it is the first time it has been asked.
