Just replaced a tranny. Is it normal for the shift lever to be able to shift into all gears without the clutch being depressed. Something to do with the clutch slave cylinder pressure from bleeding?

Theres no pressure in the transmission yet. Once you start the engine it will be normal

What does a clutch do?

It disengages the engine from the driveshaft allowing you to shift the gears on your transmission.

Can you shift 10 speed with splitter without using clutch?

Yes but you need to match engine rpm with drive rpm in order to do so. Look up the term Double Clutch for more info.

How do you shift 8 speed transmission?

If it is an eight speed in a truck, chances are it is a big rig of some sort. Push the clutch in and put the shifter in first gear. Slowly let off the clutch until the truck starts to move. Speed up until it feels like you need to shift again. You can slip the shifter out of first and into second without using the clutch if you are quick and get the feel of the engine RPMs. If you want to use the clutch you will need to double clutch. Push the clutch in to shift from first to neutral. Now let the clutch out so the engine and transmission gears start turning at the same speed. Now, quickly clutch again and shift into the next gear. let off the clutch and accelerate again. If you have a four speed with a two speed rear end there will be a switch on the shifter. Shift through the first four gears normally, then flip the switch an go back to 1st, which will become 5th gear with the axle in high range. To down shift you should double clutch too. First, clutch to shift into neutral. Let off the clutch and rev up the engine so the RPMs are correct for the vehicle speed and the next gear you want to shift into. Now clutch again and downshift. When you let off the clutch the engine, which can only turn so fast, will pull the truck speed down. You can give the engine some throttle and slowly back off so the engine braking isn't so rough or sudden. Good Luck!

What would cause stick shift to jam when car is on and clutch pressed but shift fine when car is off without stepping on clutch?

Any ideas as to why a 1997 Geo Metro will not shift into gear with the clutch depressed and engine running it will shift into gear if the engine is not running?

The springs around the clutch plate have probably came out and locked up between the pressure plate and the clutch plate and locked them together. you need to change the clutch plate and have the pressure plate checked for damage.

What are the basic steps for driving a manual car?

Driving a manual car involves several fundamental steps. Firstly, ensure the car is in neutral by pressing the clutch pedal and shifting the gear stick to the middle position. Start the engine and gradually press the clutch while shifting the gear stick into first gear. Slowly release the clutch while gently pressing the accelerator to start moving. To change gears, lift off the accelerator, press the clutch, shift to the desired gear, and then release the clutch while gradually applying the accelerator again. Rem

Do you have to use the clutch when you downshift?

You should use the clutch anytime you shift, up or down. It is possible to downshift without the clutch, when there is little torque involved, such as slowing for a stop, but that still causes momentary high torque on the engine and transmissioin components. There is usually a torque spreader inside that will handle these torque transients, but it is designed to only handle the momentum of the transmission and final stage clutch, not the input stage clutch and engine.

Why wont your Jeep Wrangler go into gear?

Do you have to use the clutch when shifting riding a dirt bike?

== At a low RPM it is recommended to use the clutch but at 3rd gear it is alright to shift UP to 4th without pulling the clutch.
