AnswerThere are over 300 horse breeds, so obviously, it would be difficult to list them all. Some are Quarter horses, arabians, thoroughbreds, morgans, Tennessee walking horses, mustangs, paints, appaloosas and shetlands.Horses are separated in several different catagories. They are separated in many different catagories, like horses, ponies, and draft horses. There are ponies, which were origionally from colder places with little to eat. They evolved into small horses with thicker coats to protect themselves from the cold, and the small size made it so they could live on less food. Horses are what you see most of. These horses were made for riding purposes. Then theres the draft horse. they look much like very large ponies. They were made for hard work like plowing feild and dragging cut wood.
They are also separated into hot-bloods, warm-bloods and cold-bloods. These mean different things than the mammal warm-blood and the reptile cold-blood. These define their temperament and origin more than whether they're a mammal or reptile. Thoroughbreds, arabians, and other similar horses are refered to as "hot blooded". These horses are the faster types, and are comonly used for racing, and sometimes jumping or dressage. Draft horses, like clydsdales and shires are "cold-bloods". these are larger, calmer horses. Quarter horses, paints, appaloosas and the like are warm-bloods. they are crosses of cold bloods and hot bloods.
There are also the gaited horses, and the non-gaited horses. gaited horses have more than the 4 basic gaits (walk, trot, canter, gallop). These gaits are normally very smooth. For instance, a Tennessee walking horse has a "running walk", and it feels like you are gliding rather than riding. A fox-trotter has a special gait called the "fox-trot" which is also pretty smooth. A quarter horse however, only has the 4 main gaits, and is therefore a non-gaited horse.
