∙ 12y agoMost animals are afraid when you try to touch them with something that they are not used to. Let the dog smell the container that the drops are in. Pet him with the bottle so that he knows it won't harm him.
If it is a smaller dog, get on your knees hover over him, blocking him from escaping with your legs. Hold his chin and slightly make it go up (so that he can't turn his head as much). Be careful to make sure you aren't causing any pain though. Grab the drops with the other hand and swiftly squeeze into his ear. You want to make this as quick as possible before he realizes what is going on.
Larger dogs aren't generally as nervous about new things and by gently, but firmly "sitting" on the dogs back, you can use the same method as above.
Then (most important) massage the base of the ear in order to work the medication down into the ear canal. There is a bend in the ear canal so this is necessary to do. Try to hold the tip of the ear flap up while you massage the base of each ear after being medicated.
If you have difficulty with your dog, put a collar or choke chain on him or her and have someone else hold him or her steady.

Go to any local pet store and buy dog ear drops. They are not expensive.
