Was this a .410 shotgun that was made INTO a pistol, or did it start as a pistol- such as the H&R Handy Gun, or a Marble's Game Getter? If it is a shotgun that was made shorter, then the answer is NO. CA state law does not permit SBS's (short barreled shotguns) even though Federal law does license and permit them. If it began life as a pistol, is shorter than 26 inches, barrel less than 18 inches, it is in a different class, known as an AOW (Any Other Weapon) CA law DOES permit possession of an AOW- HOWEVER- AOWs must be registered with the Federal BATFE- and a $5 transfer tax paid when they change ownership. IF it has not already been registered, there is no way to register it after the fact- possessing an unregistered AOW is a serious Federal crime, involving LONG prison sentences. By law, they must be surrendered to the BATFE for destruction.
