It probably isn't a good idea. The factory puts a coating (and it may be paint) on the heater when it is manufactured, and that should be it.
Painting the heater will cause it to give off some "fumes" from the paint the next time it is used, and for a number of times after that until the paint fully cures. And it's not a good idea to be breathing that stuff. As bad as a finish on a heater might be, clean it and call it good. Painting could expose you to some bad news.
Yes, I remove and clean them first, then use a spray enamel
How old is the paint?? If it is very old, chances are that you will not be able to remove it without spending an awful lot of time, and probably ruining the finish that you are trying to clean the paint off of in the first place. Here is a trick that I used to use when I had my small remodelling company. Remove the vent covers or grilles and spray paint them with a good quality enamel from a spray can, then reinstall them. Don't forget to clean them thoroughly first! While the vent cover is off, paint the wall. If you really want to do something snappy, some Benjamin MOore stores will mix a special color paint in a spray can for you. We used to have them make up colors that matched accent colored walls, or grilles that were on walls that we wallpapered. Remember to paint the screw heads too if you do this. (get a cardboard box and poke a couple small holes in one side....push the screws through the holes and it will hold the screw heads up while you paint them) Make sure that you give the newly painted vent cover or grille PLENTY of time to dry before you try to reinstall. Do not use masking tape over the freshly painted metal for at least a few days. If you need to do touch-ups, like for the screw heads that you damage because you try to re-install them too soon, you can take a small paper cup or lid to something, and spray some of the paint into the cup. Then while the paint is still liquid in the cup, use a Q-Tip to dab it on the screw heads.
A leaking heater core. oil is leaking on the engine and is burning and beining drawn in by the vent or the blower motor is going out Are you sure it's smoke or is it steam? If your windows are steaming up and it smells like maple syrup , your heater core is probably leaking.
AnswerCheck your heater core, do you smell antifreeze at all?no
paints last the longest if they are kept above 45 degrees. For example... some people store them in their UN-INSULATED garages, and then come winter, wonder how it froze. It takes quite a while to freeze paint.... probably 2-3 days in 32 degrees F. But it will take 2-3 weeks to thaw that paint sitting in your house on a heater vent. And once paint freezes solid, it is almost useless. It can be thawed out, and taken down to the store and re-shaken to try to re-mix the separated materials, but I wouldn't use it anywhere but like the garage... or a dog house.
Coolant low in the radiator, or the vent down sills are plugged with leaves, and other debris.
Yes heater vents can be painted the same colour as your walls.
heater vent will not readjust to any position
YES
Depends on what type of vent system water heater has.
yes
a direct vent water heater is more fuel efficient (cost's less to operate). aside from that there isn't much difference, aside from not needing a double wall flue through the roof on a standard gas water heater.
B-vent pipe.
vent door will be open to what ever setting u set it on regardless of what temperature setting you are using
Your vent covers should be very easy to install it is a simple diy job. You can find an instructional video at www.youtube.com.
The heater door control on a Blazer can be replaced by purchasing a new one. The heater vent will pop out with a little nudge from a flat tipped screw driver. Then insert the new heater vent door control.
When you cannot use B vent to find a way to vent the HWT through to the roof!
