. . Google search for "rank freeware sites." It should give you a listing of sites. You'll know you've found the right listing, because the site should be something like '...bean.' Pick one of the top three sites. Search for partitioning software or better 'easeus partition 2.1 home edition.' It is very easy to use; and, if you have 'adobe acrobat,' you can use the 'pdf' help file. I'll even tell you how. When you load it up, you'll see a listing of your hard drive's partitions. Your current OS partition should be listed first. All you have to do is select resize/move your partition for that selection. I put a little space at the beginning and the end of that main partition. The option to change the spacing is at the top and bottom of that menu page. Next, select the partition that is probably unallocated below the OS partition. Select format for that partion. You then name that partition and hit ok. You then resize/move that partition. I put a small space at the beginning and end of that partition. Remember that there are 1,024 MB's in a GB. And there are options to view your whole hard drive status. Also, don't panic; you can go back and change things as much as you want. The changes won't take place until you reset your computer; it will prompt you for that upon exiting. I wish you luck. P.S. - If you know how to make that new partition recognizable to linux/freespire as a bootable partition, please let me know. Thanx, - Claude

Your hard drive has 2 partitions one is Vista and one is Windows 7 you want to uninstall Windows Vista How do you do this?

Remember the fact you have two operating systems each on separate partition. Let's assume that Windows 7 is latest installed operating system. It means that Windows 7 is taking care of booting Windows. There will be two steps you need to do.First one, you should move all your important data from partition where Windows Vista is installed. After moving your data you should format the partition with Windows Vista. NOTICE:By doing this you are going to wipe all the information on this disk. Windows 7 might not allow you to perform partition formatting because there is another Windows installed, I suggest using Windows DVD to perform formatting.Second one, when booting Windows 7 still might (mostly) show you Windows Vista/Windows 7 select screen. This is because booting information is located in Windows 7, this is your primary operating system and it takes care of booting Windows. Now we are going to modify boot information.Press start (Windows Orb)Write "msconfig" and hit Select "Boot" tab.Select Windows Vista record and hit

What is the windows 7 default partition style?

MBR (Master Boot Record) - this is because prior to windows vista all x86 based computers used the MBR partition style only.

Can you install windows-7 in paresence of ubuntu?

Yes, you can. You will need to partition your hard drive because Linux has to be installed in a separate volume. I would install windows first and then Ubuntu.

What is the default cluster size setting when formatting a Windows NTFS partition on a hard disk drive larger than 2 GB?

The following table shows the default values that Windows XP uses for NTFS formatting. Drive size(logical volume) Cluster size Sectors----------------------------------------------------------512 MB or less 512 bytes 1513 MB - 1,024 MB (1 GB) 1,024 bytes (1 KB) 21,025 MB - 2,048 MB (2 GB) 2,048 bytes (2 KB) 42,049 MB and larger 4,096 bytes (4 KB) 8The maximum default cluster size under Windows XP is 4 kilobytes (KB) because NTFS file compression is not possible on drives with a larger allocation size. The Format utility never uses clusters that are larger than 4 KB unless you specifically override that default either by using the /A: option for command-line formatting or by specifying a larger cluster size in the Format dialog box in Disk Management. If you use the Convert utility to convert a volume from FAT to NTFS, Windows always uses a 512-byte cluster size. FAT structures are aligned on 512-byte boundaries; a larger cluster size does not allow conversion. Note also that in Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 and earlier, when a partition is formatted under Windows Setup, the partition is first formatted as FAT and then converted to NTFS. Therefore the cluster size is always 512 bytes when a partition is formatted in Setup. (This information does not apply to Microsoft Windows 2000 Setup or Windows XP Setup, which both format the partition according to your choice of a file system.)

How do you repartition windows 7 with partition wizard?

Wipe partition with MiniTool Partition Wizard How to wipe partition? It is not difficult. By employing the "Wipe Partition" function of MiniTool Partition Wizard, we can delete files thoroughly and they will never be recovered. In this window, computer usage information is being shown. If the files that will be deleted are in Partition H:, we need to wipe Partition H:. Select Partition H: and click "Partition" in tool bar. Select "Wipe Partition" in the drop-down list to enter the window of "Wipe Disk or Partition". There are five different wiping styles provided. The top two styles are quick but of low security. The below three are of high security but slow. We select wiping styles according to practical needs. Take "Fill Sectors with Zero" for example. Select it and click "OK". The software starts wiping partition. The main window will be shown after wiping and we can see the effect. In this window, Partition H: has been changed into unformatted partition and its space was run out because H: are filled with new written data and the original data is overwritten. Therefore, the deleted files can not be recovered

Is it possible to convert a FAT16 partition to NTFS in Windows 98?

No, and neither would it be desirable. Windows 98 cannot boot off an NTFS partition, and if your system was using a FAT16 partition, it is probably not large enough to benefit from NTFS anyway.

Why do you always use alphabetical character to give a name of hard disk partition?

on the Windows platform only, it is easier to refer to a storage partition as a letter than /dev/sda1/.linux and possibly Apple(c) computers use /dev/sda1/ because it is the raw code, C:\ is converted. This is all I know. Microsoft(c) windows operating systems are written totally different.

How do you remove partitions in Windows 7?

For that you need a bootable CD of your operating system. A bootable CD means that your PC will boot with that CD rather than your harddrive.Once you have a bootable CD, insert it into your CD-drive.Restart your computer. Now when the computer is starting, you have to enter the boot menu. It is done using different keys for different PCs. HP usually has F8. Others, you'll have to find out.Now set boot preference, with CDDRIVE on top. Then exit boot menu and keep pressing control. You'll enter the Windows Installation menu. After that you'll get and option to format Windows and select the partition. It is here you can delete partitions, create new ones, and install back windows.CAUTION : You will format you PC completely and lose all installed data in installation drive.
