It depends on which games. There are many good open source Linux games you can get for free, such as Tremulous. Also, many popular Windows games will run with a compatibility layer (Wine or Cedega), such as World of Warcraft and Guild Wars. Some games are Windows only, and not compatible with Wine, such as Sims 2.

∙ 12y agoUnfortunately, many Windows programs still are not made for Linux. Fortunately, you can still run most Windows programs more or less efficiently by either installing a virtual machine or by using a software called Wine. Both allow you to use Windows programs in Ubuntu, with the only difference being that virtual machines are generally slower, but are compatible with more programs than Wine.
