Absolutely. However, while the 283 heads will most likely have smaller combustion chambers (resulting in higher compression) they also have smaller valves. If you want a good low end torque engine they will work just fine. If you plan on revving it much the 283 heads will choke the 350.
I will add that you may encounter difficulties getting the pulleys to line up. The 350's had 3/8-16 tapped holes in the ends for accessory brackets. The 283's didn't have these holes.
If you try to add the holes using a template or something, there is a possibility that you will drill through to the water jacket, and then you'd have to use good sealer on the bolts to keep things from leaking.
If you can bring over the brackets from the donor 283, it might be easier. Sometimes the intake manifold doesn't have the necessary tapped hole near the thermostat housing for the alternator tensioner. This means you may need to modify the tensioner to attach it to the first intake manifold bolt. I've done this by heating the bracket with a torch and putting a 1/4 twist in it. Then locate a new hole and drill. Probably have to grind off the corner of the bracket so it doesn't interfere with the #1 intake tract.
The aftermarket addresses this whole issue with complete bracket kits that include everything you'll need, but it's expensive. Check Summit, Jeg's or similar for your application. March Performance makes a nice serpentine setup for these also that is very good quality and looks nice.
They will fit, but the engine won't perform very efficiently. Also, 283's didn't have accessory bolt holes on the ends.
yes all sbc manifolds will fit, when you get to cyl heads then you will have trouble since most aftermarket are for 350 bore which is larger
yes they will bolt right on.
As long as the 350 is older then a 1987, you will have no problems. They will bolt right on with no modifying.
The 350 engine was introduced in 1968. A 1955 small block would be a 265 or 283.
No. The 350 has bigger valves. While you CAN put the 305 heads on the 350, (I can't imagine why you would actually want to) you can NOT put the 350 heads on the 305. Because of the 305's small bore, the valves on the 350 heads will hit the cylinder block.
YES, If you have center dump exhaust manifolds you will want to make sure that they will bolt up to the 350 heads. You did not say what year heads you are going to use. BUT more the likely they will bolt up.
no
YES. That is a direct bolt on with no problems. The heads will bolt on, but the compression ratio will be different. Depending on which heads and which pistons, the compression ratio could be a lot different.
no you cannot they are not interchangeable the 89 heads are fuel injected heads and the 79 are carb heads and will not interchange
No.
the heads should fit as long as your not trying to put them on a big block
