This is probably an urban myth. Then again, it is theoretically possible, although it would almost inevitably lead to serious internal injuries. (We're talking permanent injury and maybe a colostomy bag for the rest of your life.) It's also a pretty cruel thing to do to a gerbil.

Gerbils are easy to pick up, all u have to do is just put your hands in the cage and wrap your hands under their body and lift them up. after you do it a couple times it will get easier. hope this helped! ; )
