When referring to dogs it isn't so much the fact that you'd be hand feeding the pup as much as you will be getting your scent on the pup and that will confuse the progenitor (dog)
The pup may need to be bottle fed in order to survive. Ask your veterinarian for advise on bottle feeding. They need to be fed formula or a homemade milk replacement, not cows milk.
If the puppy is old enough to be weaned, then separate the mother from the pup. Put them in separate rooms until her milk dries up. At the same time, make sure the pup can eat. Start with adding warm water to food to make a mash. You may have to hand feed until the pup catches on that this food tastes good---which doesn't take long (a few tastes). If your pup is too young to be weaned, take the mom to a vet for a check and switch the pup to bottle feeding.
