Can you put a v6 engine in a 1996 Mitsubishi Mirage?

Yes you can. It would not be leagal on US roads but it has been done before. A few mirages where produce with the mitshubishi 6a10 motor 1.6 v6 (not in the usa :(). If your looking for more power or displacement there are other 6a motors that use the same/similar block. There may be small differances in which motor mounts to use and how other parts are placed on it and includeing and higher deck height i.e. hood isuess. To swap the 6a13tt 2.5 v6 twinturbo into a mirage is about the best one could do as far as i know. For the less extensive route would be a 4g63t 2.0 i4 turbo motor that is a much more common swap since the 89-91or2 mirages had a turbo model that came out with 4g61 1.6 i4 turbo motor, little brother. But the engine is reversed in 96 or ealier mirages requireing an extra half shaft in the tranny and needs and evo4or5 motor or older, eclipse, talon ro laser motors will do to as long as u also can get your hands on 4g61 axles for your car and have a welder make the mounts to save on locating parts time, Or go to lilevo.com to get the right mount numbers.{awd is the way baby!!!}

It would be easiest to import a v6 mirage to make it the project less time and skill intensive. Other have done front clip and/or custom modifcations to fit the motor in the engine bay. There are many problems with doing swaps such as this one, less info, fewer referances.As far as I know they would be more sought out by only a few with bundles of cash or heaps of skills and information. There are so may factors that need to be understood where doing engine swaps. So heres a list of factors that I have found to cause problems with others and engine swaps in general.

Engine placement- know where to place it and why, then attach the tranny and axles before you make your custom mounts.

Tranny's- Use the correct bellhousing/ make one, and a tranny to support your swap plan.

Axle alingment- make sure you got the right axles... they need to fit the tranny and stearing knuckles without being short or long.

ECM, TCM, Hack and Slash Wire Jobs- locating parts for your junk yard motor, tranny, and which wires need to be added and remove also where there going sould be on the list of things to get straightened out before the purchasing of parts that may not be usuable. Don't concern your slef with how to route the wires but if you know what wires will need to be added befor you start your swap it'll be easy to start the car when you get everything in place. (Nothing like swaping a motor on a weekend and waiting a month to start it...)

also note other changes that'll be need to be done like if you think your 1.5 mirages fuel pump is enough for your 2.5tt motors fuel needs your going to need to get more informed about your project from fourms most likely or even better try and fail then get pissed of and burn your project into the gound and collect insurance on your car!!! never really happend.
