Do not use sawdust or any kind of wood chips in a ferrets cage, it could cause respiratory problems they have sensitive noses.

Even better, just use blankets. They are washable, therefore more economical and cheaper. Most owners just use a litter box instead, filled with a ferret safe litter (Marshall litter, Yesterdays News, Schwheat Scoop, Worlds Best, wood stove pellets)

Dont use sawdust as bedding for your hamster. It can get in the eyes which will cause irritation and discomfort. I would recemend the carefresh brand bedding. You can find it at your local petstore. They come in three different sizes. small, medium and large

Most cat litters are not recommended for ferret litter boxes. Cat litters are very dusty and when the ferret inhales it breathes in the dust. This can serious breathing problems such as coughing, wheezing and difficulty breathing.

Clumping cat litters are a no-no. When clumping litter is ingested it expands and can block the ferrets stomach or intestines which can be deadly. After going to the bathroom ferrets wipe their bottom along the litter. Clumping litter can cause skin inflammation and in worse cases blockages.

Wood chips are another no-no as they contain a lot of dust as well as oils that are irritating to the ferrets paws, skin, eyes and lungs.

There are many types of litter available that are specifically made for ferrets. They contain less dust and less chemicals than cat litters and are available in some pet shops or online. Alternatively you could line the litter box with newspapers. Newspapers are less absorbent though and so would need to be changed more frequently.

Is it safe to put a ferret in a hamster cage?

You can put a ferret in a hamsters cage on a temporary basis as long as it's not being used to house hamster's as the ferret will kill them. A ferrets needs a large size cage made for ferrets.

How do you housebreak your bunny if it stays in a cage most of the time?

Rabbits are very territorial, they are also creatures of habit. Observe which corner of their cage they use for a potty. Put a cat litter box with sand or clay litter in that corner. It should be emptied every two or three days. If you are planning to let this rabbit loose in your house you can eventually get rid of the cage and leave the box there and they will still use the litter box in the space where he has become used to using it.

What is the best litter pan for a male ferret?

The best litter pan is usually the trangle kind the fits in the corner of the cage. Ferrets prefer to "do their business" in a corner by backing up to the corner, so wait to see which corner your fuzzbutt likes and put the litter pan there {this is also the quickest way to litter train them}. Try to use a litter that is recomended for ferrets (my personal choice is Yesterday's News as it is made from recycled newspaper) as some kinds of litter can cause health issues or (in the case of the sandy kind of litter) your fuzzy might like to play in it. Don't be surprised if he thinks the pan is a new bed, this is normal, I have 6 males and they all have gone that route. It might be a good idea to have more than one pan especially if the cage has more than one level. __________________________________________ Most ferrets I have met prefer the large square ones. The corner ones are too small for them to fit their whole bodies into

Could I get help with my ferrets cage and toys?

im not sure what help you need, but heres what i got for my ferrets, i bought a rabbit cage that's about three feet tall, and added in a wooden half level, i hung the hammocks (beds) from the top on the half level i put there food bowl and water bowl, on the bottem is the litter box. I gave them for toys- cat toys which are those bells in plastic. The like things they can roll along the floor and any tubing is great, they love to tunnel. My ferrets love to climb into boxes and all that . They also love the sonw becasue the tunnel in it. make sure the toys aer big enough not to be swallowed.

Is it possible or a reasonable idea to train a cat and a ferret to use the same litterbox?

No, ferrets will not use a litter box with a lot of feces in it, they prefer a clean litter pan. And you cannot use the same litter for cats that you can for ferrets. Use litter specially made for ferrets, which cost more. With a cat, you can use cheap clay litter which cannot be used for ferrets, so it make better sense to have separate litter pans from other contributors: Not really...ferrets insist on corners, and do much better when the front end (i.e. side of a corner without a wall) is at floor level - they poop, then scoot a few inches and use the floor as toilet paper. However, because of their insistence to dig and the fact that many types of litter can harm their eyes (anything with crystals in it...and of course, using cat litter without crystals is a smelly pain...also, clumping litter is a HUGE no no since it'll stick to them and they'll ingest it - not good for their narrow digestive tracts)... a much better alternative is to use dog potty training pads. I personally use the neat N dry brand, and cut them in half into triangles so that they work well in the corner. They're great at absorbing wetness and odor - and much easier to clean. I just change them once a day and put them in that morning's newspaper plastic bag before I put it in the big trash can.
