Lighter has new wick but very hard to light?

before you put the wick in you need to get a little bowl of zippo fluid. Soak the wick in it for 5 minuets then allow it to dry then insert it into the zippo and then add zippo fluid to the lighter and set upsdie down for 5min then flip over and dry off top and use zippo. That simple. Your Friend David davidbtamplen@yahoo.com

Can you take lighter fluid from one lighter and put it in a zippo?

im not sure if you mean taking the fluid from a regular lighter and putting that into a zippo or just simply zippo to zippo but I'll answer both. I wouldn't recomend putting normal butane lighter fluid into a zippo because it runs out really fast and makes the flame far too big to be practical. if you want to change fuel from one zippo to another simply remove the insert, peel back the first felt layer, take out the cotton from inside and putting that cotton into the other zippo. hope that helped :)

Can you over fill a Zippo?

Yes ... and if you put it into your pants pocket, the excess fluid will leak out and burn your skin. Not to mention that when the lighter is ignited, the excess fluid will also catch fire and put you and others around you into a very dangerous situation.

Can you put zippo lighter fluid in a jet lighter?

I wouldn't recommend it because the lighter fluid is just a liquid and the normal jet lighter fuel is a compressed gas. Having the gas compressed forces the gas out with the perfect amount of pressure. If you just put a liquid in it, it will just sit there and not do anything; maybe if you pressurize it and then make it into a fine mist when it comes out then it might work, but it wouldn't be too practical because it would be cheaper to buy butane than mod your lighter.

Can you put lamplight lamp oil in a zippo?

no

It has been said zippo lighters are prone to leakage is this true and is it something you should be concerned about?

The zippo lighter will only leak if you over fill it and yes it is something to be concerned about if you put a leaking lighter in your pocket the fluid will burn you and leave a nasty red welt on your skin.

Why won't my Zippo light?

Your question is a bit ambiguous. I would say first, add fluid, make sure the fluid has soaked into the cotton, and keep the lid shut for a min before lighting. If that does not work then I would suggest moving the wick to the flint, this can be done by using a key and pushing the cotton-metal wick towards the spark end of the zippo. Suppose that does not work... you can always purchase zippo parts from a cigar shop and they will be more than willing to help you if you buy a pack of smokes from them! Last case buy a cheap zippo and put the center pice into yours... it will work fine and you will have your zippo art with a genuine zippo center! Remember if you have a problem with your official zippo, then they all have a lifetime guarantee, so you can always send it back to your regional zippo centre.

When you purchase a zippo lighter what comes with it?

If you buy the lighter, it comes with the case (the outer part of the lighter), the lighter (the inner piece where the wick comes out of the chimney), one wick, one flint, and the filler material that you put fluid onto. You can also purchase kist that come with spare wicks, flints, and a can of Zippo brand fluid. When I bought mine they did not offer the kits, so I bought the lighter, some fluid, some wicks, and some flints and it was under $40 for the whole mess.

Will too much lighter fluid mother a fire?

no, but putting too much into the zippo will cause it to leak out the sides and make the whole lighter catch fire, only put it in until all the felt is moist.

How can you light charcoal without lighter fluid?

One good way is to tightly crumple up a few pages of newspaper and place it in the bottom of your grill. If you have lighter fluid, soak it. Pile your coals over the newspaper and then light it. My personal favorite though is to jsut douse the heck out of the coals with lighter fluid, stand back and let 'er rip. I make a point to let all the lighter fluid burn off before cooking. Get an empty 3lb alluminum coffee can. Drill several half inch holes in bottom and sides. Fill with charcoal bricks and place on lit high heat outdoor fish fryer. Once the charcoal bricks in the can become mostly gray remove from fryer and pour bricks into your pit. I use a pair of offset pliers or channel locks to handle hot can. Two 3lb cans of bricks is plenty for most cooks but if your cooking a large cut of meat you may need three. This only takes a few minutes and completely eliminates the need and taste of lighter fluid. This really is much faster than simply pouring lighter on the bricks in your grill and waiting for them to burn off the lighter fluid and turn gray.JN
