No, that's a bad idea because they might fight and sometimes, not often though, mother guinea pigs eat anything threatening- horrible. People put rabbits and guinea pigs together but you shouldn't do that either :( hope thet helped

I wouldn't. Where guinea pigs are bigger, their more likely to want all the space. Try and get two cages, one for the guinea pig and one for the hampster. But if you want your guinea pig to meet the hampster.... thens that's a different story.

You can put them together during mating season. That's all you can do.

What are some ideas for homemade snacks furniture and toys for your guinea pigs and hamsters?

Both hamsters and guinea pigs LOVE to burrow. Grab some toilet paper and put it in to play and burrow in. Also, take a little bell or ball with holes and put a treat in it. They will love to try to get the treat out.

Can you put dwarf hamsters and guinea pigs together?

No. The guinea pig is much bigger than a dwarf hamster, and putting them together may cause harm to the dwarf hamster.

Why are guniea pigs better than hamsters?

I wouldn't say that either is better then the other but guinea pigs are more calm. also hamsters are most likely to bite some people say but they only bite if they are scared so if you don't scare them they won't bite simple. but also hamsters are actually lower in price and don't need that much room which is a plus on their side but they are also nocturnal and guinea pigs are awake during the the day and sleep at night. Another thing is that hamsters are more active then guinea pigs so they tend to run around a lot more but this is not true for all hamsters . guinea pigs on the other hand are mostly not that active but again this is not true for all guinea pigs . but something that is for fact guinea pigs must have another to lie with they can not live alone but with hamsters on the other hand they can live alone but then again that is not really good because if you try to put to hamsters in the same cage your looking for a fight. also if guinea pigs escape they are easier to catch.

What animals do you find in the same habitat as guinea pigs?

You can put rabbits and guinea pigs together. But I think that's all

Can you put new guinea pigs with existing guinea pigs?

It's a good idea to put the two guinea pigs in separate cages so that they can see each other. This is so they can get used to each other and will prevent fighting and stress when they are put together.

Do 2 male guinea pigs fight?

only if you put them together when there adults if there children and together they wont fight. That has nothing to do with it. Guinea pigs will protect their territory like dogs will. I have two male guinea pigs and they are adults and do not fight what so ever.

What can you put on a ramp in a guinea pig's cage?

You probably shouldn't- guinea pigs are not as flexible as hamsters and the like, and may fall and be seriously injured. You should also NEVER put a guinea pig on a wheel- they will break their backs.

Are guinea pigs and hamsters compatible?

I wouldn't try to house them together as the guinea pig is going to get a lot larger then the hamster. It can be done hamsters can be put with guinea pigs. I had a hamster and a guinea pig together at one time because they were both alone. As long as you watch them a while when you first do it to make sure they don't fight then it should work out fine. I had a golden hamster i wouldn't try it with a dwarf hamster or anything that small. But as long as they don't fight and the guinea pig don't hog all the food then it should be ok. But if you have more then 1 hamster and more than 1 guinea pig i would not try it. THIS ANSWER IS CRAZY HAMSTERS AND GUINEA PIGS SHOULD NEVER BE HOUSED TOGHETHER. JUST BECAUSE IT WORKED ONCE DOES NOT AND I REPEAT DOES NOT MEAN IT WILL WORK OUT IN MOST CASES!!!!!!! This answer is horrible. No, they can NEVER be housed together. A guinea pig can only be housed with another guinea pig! do NOT put a guinea pig and hamster together, the guinea pig is going to get much bigger than the hamster. plus they need different foods. (MRS.TYLER22) Well first off i have 4 guinea pigs and 2 hamsters and for play time when i do not feel like letting them run around the room i put the inside of this really large plastic tote that i use to use to put my clothes in (very spacious) all of them and they just play in there together no fighting just playin but i do not allow them to sleep with the guinea pigs remind you that this is just for play time.Every animal is different you might just have to try your animals together on a trial basis because noone can say that they cant play or that they can every animal again is DIFFERENT!!!!

Are guinea pig and hamster different?

Yes. A guinea pig is less territorial than a hamster. Never put a hamster with a guinea pig as surprisingly the hamster will kill the guinea pig as they will not share unless they are breeding.

Why are hamsters and guinea pigs different?

Well, they're diffrent because they're just two diffrent species! That's why. But how they're diffrent is: 1) Hamsters are smaller2) Hamsters don't eat "raw" hay3) Guinea Pigs need citrus (add citrus drops to their water) but Hamsters will die/get very sick if you give them citrus fruits of any kind.4) Hamsters run in wheels/toy balls. Guinea Pig /don't/. It can hurt their back if you put them in one.5) Guinea Pigs are actually part of the hedgehog family. Not like Hamsters.6) Guinea Pigs live for 5-8 years. Hamsters will live up to about 3.5 years if you're lucky.7) You can "fix" Guinea Pigs at some vets. It's growing to be more common...but I've never heard of fixing Hamsters (who knows, they might have some places that will)8) They say Guinea Pigs /rarely/ bite. (Mine do =p) but Hamsters have gotten a rep for nipping.9) You can give a Guinea Pig a bath! (Be super careful and look it up first)10) You don't have to cut Hamsters' claws. This is just 10 reasons. The list goes on and on. I've owned both species. Hope this helps! -GuineaBoo
