If you are asking, are Great Danes allergic to cedar, the answer is no, they are not. Cedar is a great natural bug repellent. Many good brand dog beds (Kirkland) contain cedar. However, your question poses a few more questions. A Great Dane is a delicate creature. They cannot withstand extreme temperatures, not cold, not hot, therefore, a dog house throws me off. Are you housing the Great Dane outside? Is the house temperature controlled? A Great Dane should be in the human's house. I use blankets - king size and queen size folded several times to make something soft enough for my light weight - 116 female to lay on. You may have to put several layers to make it acceptable.

Remember, these dogs are as heavy as a human and I would say much more delicate than a human. To put them on something where their body simply sinks to a hard surface is cruel. What you will end up with is a dog with bone issues, Arthritis, callouses, and pure distaste for their own bed. So when preparing a bed for them, think about it, could you sleep on it? If not, don't put them on it. They weigh as much as you - or more.

Idea: I have resorted to: Crib mattresses. They are cheap when purchased at the thrift stores - $10 - $20. You are recycling. You can also purchase the crib sheet and put one on the bottom and the top to protect the mattress from the floor. It can be cleaned with bleach because they have a plastic surface. I can take the bedding off and wash it. They can take the weight of the dog OR human OR both. My husband and I both cuddle our Danes on their respective beds. We lost our seats on the couch to the dogs and had to finish a movie on the dog bed. When the deal for dog beds comes along we purchase (Costco) but the deal of the century was the crib mattress. I throw a blankie (also from the thrift store) and viola! they are all set for quite some time.

Another answer

I would not use cedar chips because dogs love to chew and eat everything, he would probably eat it and get it in his eyes, nose etc.

When chickens are over 1 month old can you use straw for their bedding?

Wood shavings are best but straw will do assuming they are completely feathered. It's hard for little feet to scratch large straw around and search for food. Shavings offer better absorbing qualities and retain heat better than straw.

What happens if a hamster sneezes?

She just has the flu, or is allergic to something in the cage. Another reason, she might have escaped from the cage recently and a flea or tick might have hitched a ride on your hamster. Bring it to the vet for medicine.I would check the type of bedding you are using. Ceder and pine bedding or toys are harmful to hamsters because of the oil. ESp when they pee on them. Also many hamsters now are allergic to corn. You can try cutting corn out of their diet and see if it improves.

What does it mean when your hamster kicks its beading?

Hampsters like to burrow food and there poop. When a hampster kicks its bedding it is covering up something. It also could be making a little sleeping hole.

How do you make your hamster go to the bathroom in there cup?

Hamsters do not "go to the bathroom in a cup." They choose a corner of their cage, and they go to the bathroom there on a regular basis. If you leave him to it, he'll do fine. Once you see where he likes to go, you can work on putting a little flat plate under the shavings in that corner to try to catch the droppings. But I doubt you'll be successful trying to get him to go in a cup. Just put the regular shavings they sell for hamsters in the cage, give him a little piece of an old, clean towel to make his nest, give him fresh water in a proper hamster water bottle, and give him hamster food in a bowl, and he'll be fine! Good luck.

What wood shavings are good for a hamster?

If you want to use wood shavings, the only safe choice is Aspen. Never use cedar or pine because they contain toxins that can cause respiratory illness such as pneumonia. Carefresh bedding is ok, although somewhat dusty. Both Aspen and Carefresh can be found in the small animal section of most pet stores
