Yes! GSPs can be kept with African Cichlids but only can they be introduced together when both are young and in a big enough aquarium with lots of plants and decor. Both will learn to co exist together but keep them well fed. Be careful when choosing your Cichlids as some are not peaceful for example Texas CICHLIDS but fire mouths, jewels and malawis should be fine. GSPs are aggressive fish when mature so be aware and prepared that some tank mates could become dinner at any time. R.Martin Marine biologist.

The answer is a very definite NO! Please do not try to keep Frogs with fish. They need totally different conditions. Frogs need to be kept in a "Vivarium" specially set up for their species with a heated land section. Puffer fish need to be kept in an aquarium with a cycled filter, heater etc.

Second Answer
The answer is no for a different reason. Initially it is safe to house a green spotted puffer with an African clawed frog. Personally, I have a green spotted puffer in a tank with four frogs and have not had problems. From what I've seen and heard, puffers become more aggressive when in groups, thus possibly harming your frog. So if you plan on putting a young puffer in a community tank, make sure you limit it to one.
In the long term, while frogs remain in freshwater, the puffer will have to be moved into brackish water at a minimum. They will not develop properly in freshwater and will have a substantially shorter life span.

∙ 14y agoAfrican Cichlids need hard, alkaline water. South American Cichlids need soft, acid water. Each type of fish will not last long in conditions that are suited for the other. So the answer is. "No they should not be kept together because they need totally different water parameters".

If you are looking for a bottom feeder for an African tank that is guaranteed to work, get yourself a synodontis catfish. They are from the same lakes, get along with cichlids, and can be stunningly beautiful.

In addition, as it would not allow me to type any further, eggs have been laid by the female salvini central America cichlid, but as stated no male exists in tank of that area, other tank mates include mouthbrooders such as frontosa, peacock cichlids, and mbuna's all from south Africa, so I am curious if there is any possiblity that these eggs are fertile, as I have many breeding pair, but the female that has laid these eggs is the only egg layer in the tank and has no mate of same genre, any ideas if eggs could be fertilized by a mouthbrooding cichlid such as the tankmates from south Africa?
