Yes. Horses are browsers; they graze constantly. The only time this can be a problem is if you have a very lush field (especially in spring), in which case you may want to limit the time the horse spends out there to a few hours a day. This goes double for ponies, who have been known to overgraze and either founder or colic.

What can be done to a horse that is underweight not fed enough and eats its own feces?

Sometimes foals will start eating their own or their mother's dung in an attempt to get the nutrients that they are lacking. Eating dung is not dangerous for the horse, but doing so is a sign that the horse may be malnourished. A vet should be consulted on the proper diet and supplements for the horse and what his proper weight should be.

How often should a horse be cliped?

Once a month unless you need it done before a show. :]Horses don't realy need to be clipped. if your horse is a show horse the horse must be clipped weekly, or when ever you see whisker, or long hair growth. an average horse, meaning outside, trail rides, or like a pasture horse, doesn't need to be clipped, but if you like you can. unless you are proffesional, you should not clip a horse for the first time on your own. make sure you have assistance from someone who knows what they are doing. h

What's the process called when a horse has its teeth done?

Well I'm not quite sure what you are getting at but to get it done you go to the Horse Dentists. I would recommend asking other horse owners what a good one is if you want to get your horse done. Dentistry work can ruin your horses mouth if not done properly and comfortable for the horse.

How do you make a horse talk?

If you are referring to their actual "talking" to each other, it is difficult to get a horse to whinny on cue unless you have a horse that will whinny for its pasture mates when taken to the barn or vice versa, you can also use feed, I know my horses will whinny any time they see me with the feed pans. However, if you are talking about making a horse look like it is talking, as done in the old Mr Ed tv show, a little peanut butter on the inside lips will work.

What to do to keep a horse from eating straw?

Horses eat straw to keep busy, typically from a lack of needed chewing time. The best thing to do is make sure the horse has hay available at all times. This can be done by hanging a couple of slow feed hay nets in the stall or using a slow feeder from the ground. You can also place a grazing muzzle on the horse to limit the amount of straw it is eating in the stall, but the horse must be watched carefully if a muzzle is used.

What does board a horse mean?

Board a horse means you keep the horse at a boarding barn, essentially you rent a stall or field for your horse to live in, much like a human will rent a house or apartment. Some types of board are:1.Self-Care: Usually the cheapest option, you are responsible for feeding, mucking, turning out and all other forms of needed care.2. Partial-Care: The own does part of the daily care chores but the other half is done by barn staff.3. Full-Care: The barn staff does all of the work and typically provides all of the feed and bedding whereas Self care does not typically provide feed.4. Pasture board: The horse lives in a pasture either alone or with other horses and typically has a run in shelter available.5. Stall board: The horse has a stall available at all times and may or may not get pasture time.

What do miniture horses eat?

You feed mini horses the same feeds as you would feed a full size horse- just in smaller portions. A mini horse should eat 1.5-2% of its body weight every day in forage (pasture or high-quality hay). Depending upon its individual needs (temperment, health, amount and type of work being done- ie pasture pet, cart horse, performance horse), you would add grain and/or supplements.
