remove axle, separate joint inner or outter joint, clean, regrease, and put it back together with a new boot
CV boot? Tierod boot? Ball joint boot? Driveshaft slip yoke boot? If its torn REPLACE it
Check the "boot" for cracks and see if there is any loss of grease. The boot is the rubber housing around the CV Joint. If the boot is damaged, grease has escaped and the CV Joint is making noise, the CV joint must be replaced.
If the boot is torn, then more than likely the CV joint needs replacing. It at the very least needs to be inspected. You can replace the boot with a repair kit, but I would have the joint inspected.
The CV joint boot is bad, and needs to be replaced.
The boot is the rubber cover The boot is the accorion-folded rubber shroud that fits over the ball joint,
The CV joint is the part inside the boot.
Yes the joint will become contaminated with road dust and rain causing it to wear. @ earliest possible time remove joint from car wash joint in paraffin and re pack with grease supplied with new boot and refit
Technically yes you can. However, they are sealed for life and don't need it unless the rubber boot is damaged or disturbed. It does require a complete disassembly of the joint after removing it from the vehicle and it is by far one of the messiest jobs there is. Once you have the entire CV joint/shaft out remove the snap ring holding the boot on the large end. Gently pry the rubber boot off and the joint will come apart easily after that. Be very careful not to lose one of the three rollers. Squirt the proper cv joint grease (it's a special compound) into the area on the rollers and into the cv cup where the rollers will go back in to making sure to get an even amount spread around. Put the roller part back into the cup and attach a new snap ring and reinstall. Good luck.
Don't bother, just replace the entire axle. Once the boot is damaged, the CV joint is contaminated and it will not last very long. It's just an exercise in futility to replace the boot, and the effort is almost as great as if you replaced the entire half-shaft axle.
The rubber boot that covers the CV joint is what tears. When the boot tears grease is expelled and water and dirt gets in.
Did you replace the CV joint itself? If the boot is torn then that is your problem.
