It will have R134a...which you can buy without a license at any parts store. At the very least buy a recharge hose with a gauge so you can tell when you've got the right amount in it. It would be a good idea to check the system for leaks before putting a bunch of freon in it only to have it leak right back out.

Connect the Freon recharge hoses to the ports on the air conditioner compressor. With the hoses connected release the Freon into the compressor.
I speak with knowledge from my own 1998 Pontiac Grand Am, quad 4. Well, your lowside fitting is on the compressor and you will see a blue cap on it. The lowside is the red cap that you will see besides the water resevoir. I will not go into specifics on how to test it as there are plenty of places to look for that. However, for me, the hardest part was finding that lowside, blue capped port. HTH. Chad
