To replace the AC compressor in a 1999 Grand Prix you must first remove the AC belt. Then disconnect the negative battery cable before removing the compressor bolts and connectors and removing compressor.

Remove passenger side fan that is attached to the radiator. Drain freon out of system. Remove electrial plug on compressor. Remove bolt that is located between the two hoses on an aluminum block attached to compressor. Remove the serpentine belt. Remove the 4 bolts that are located on the radiator side of the compressor. You now have it off but be careful not to damage the radiator when lifting it out.

Always use safety glasses and gloves! To remove the A/C compressor you must evacuate system & properly dispose of old R-134A. Then unbolt and remove old compressor. (You should be certified to handle R-134A to charge system)
Identify and remove freon. Remove the failed compressor and transfer the brackets, sensors, manifolds and switches to the replacement unit. Clean components that are not being replaced. Replace the dryer or accumulator. Install the new compressor.
