Coils with copper tubes that leak refrigerant can be repaired, though sometimes replacement is more practical and cost effective. Kits are sold at HVAC supply houses for repair of all aluminum coils, but where I come from, the professionals will not attempt it, due to high failure rates.

The air conditioner stinks when the coils gather dust and make water (condensate) and it becomes mold. what you should do is to change your furnace filter and clean it then spray the coils down with a weak bleach solution.You can use a wet-dry to vacuum the wet dust.
