As an experienced TV technician, chances are the replacement picture tube for your TV will cost more than the set did originally. They're getting scarce because there really aren't that many manufacturers making CRT's any longer and in most cases, a replacement CRT will be a rebuilt.
Yes, you could change one, but it's a dangerous operation and the voltages found in CRTs can be FATAL, even after the television has been turned off.
As far as repairing your old tube, it depends on what's wrong with it. Sometimes they can be rejuvinated, but this too requires either intimate electronics experience or the proper equipment. In most cases, that'll just buy you another 30 days to maybe as much as two years of useful service.
Doesn't always work either. Depends on the condition of the tube and the manufacturer.
Best advice: Go buy another TV. It is now likely to be far less expensive than repairing a CRT television.
