No.

Not unless you use a transformer to change the voltage.

In the US mains voltage is 110-120 V and the current 60Hz Alternating Current.

In the UK and almost all of Europe mains voltage is 230-240 V and the current 50Hz Alternating Current.

So, if you attempt to use a US appliance in the UK the voltage, which is at least twice the amount of that in the US will create double the current in the device. This will either immediately blow an internal fuse, or burn the appliance out. In extreme cases it could even cause a fire.

Convert a US to UK voltage?

If you mean in domestic use, the US is at 120 V and the UK at 240 V. So you need a transformer with a 2 to 1 turn ratio, to step up if using a UK appliance in the US, or to step down if using a US appliance in the UK.

Can you use UK appliances in the us?

Not unless the appliance is rated to be used with the two different power supplies. The US uses 120v, 60 Hz if it plugs into a receptacle, and possibly 240v, 60Hz if it is hard wired. The UK uses 240v, 50Hz whether it plugs in or is hard wired. These two power systems are NOT compatible. You may use a US appliance in the UK, and vice versa, only if the appliance is dual rated, i.e. the appliance says 120v/60Hz AND 240v/50Hz on the nameplate. If the appliance only specifies one power supply, it can only be used on that power supply. If this is the case, you may be able to use a travel adapter to operate the appliance.

How can you convert US 120V or 240V circuit into a single phase 240V circuit to use on a European appliance?

The voltage isn't a problem, you can run 220 from your house and use that to run a European appliance, the problem is whether the appliance is dependant on line HZ. European is 50HZ and US is 60HZ. If the appliance specifies 220/50HZ, it will probably give you trouble here. If it says 220V/50 or 60HZ

Can you use vacuum cleaners in UK if purchased in us?

yes, but you need an adaptor because US plugs are different to UK plugs you can get these adaptors from places like Maplins ********************************************************************** Some appliances can be operated on either 50 or 60 hertz. It is preferable to use the frequency that the appliance was designed for. Some appliances have a switch which can be activated so that the appliance can be used at the alternate frequency.
