An iPhone 5 can only be tracked if it has a Wi-Fi or cellular connection. The GPS in an iPhone is a receiver. It will pick up its location and us it for apps. The iPhone's GPS does not send its location anywhere. There needs to be a connection for the location of the iPhone to be found.
