Yes you can shift virtually any stock Jeep into 4wd HI on the fly. Jeep recommends not to shift on the fly above 55MPH and I always ease off on the gas to make the shift easier on the system. Never attempt to do this when the wheels are spinning on slippery pavement or when navigating a tricky trail that might cause the wheels to move at different speeds. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO GO INTO NEUTRAL OR 4WD LO on the fly you will do damage to your transfer case.

"Never attempt to do this when the wheels are spinning on slippery pavement or when navigating a tricky trail" You gotta be kiddin' me buddy... that's what the entire purpose of "4wd on the fly" is for. I don't know what you've been driving in the past but just "for the record" Jeep has been doing this shift on the fly thing for a very long time my friend. And the primary reason to their success is due to the "mechanically advanced, ahead of its time, state of the art, super convenience of the constant assurance of always knowing that in the event you are faced with a situation where you need four wheel drive at that very moment... it will always be there ready for you, comforting you. Always AT YOUR COMMAND whenever you may need it.

Can you shift to 4 wheel drive on the fly in your 2000 Jeep TJ?

Since the front axle spins all the time anyway, yes you should be able to shift to 4-HI on the fly. However, you can't shift to 4-LO.

2001 ford f250 stuck in four low?

Is it electronic shift on the fly 4wd? If this is the case start truck apply the brakes, then while stopped, put the transmission in Neutral (N) take the selector from 4wd low to 4wd high. Put the truck back into Drive (D) then move around etc. If you want to go to 2wd then select 2wd. It the truck is manual shift linkage, you may have to fuss with it to get it to pop out of 4wd low. The shifter rod has to be pushed down then pulled back so it could be stuck.

Do you shift 2000 Jeep Laredo into 4 wheel drive from stop or on the fly?

On the fly is not an option for 4 wheel low, you will have to stop the jeep and place in neutral before that change can be made. You are litterally moving pieces inside of your differential, so ther can be no other vehicle movement.

How do you change into 4W Drive in a 2000 Jeep Wrangler?

If it is a Sport or Sahara model, you have a shift-on-the-fly capability. Just to the left of the shifter is a lever. Pull up once for 4WD Hi (trail riding, light off-road). Or pull all the way, following the track diagram on the lever for 4WD Lo (Low gear crawling, steep hills). Lower speed to 3-5 mph before trying to engage. Just be sure to let your foot off the gas before engaging it. It's easier on the transfer case.

Why won't 4 wheel drive won't engage on 2002 kia sportage?

My Sportage is a 2001 model but I also had trouble initially getting it into 4wd. The trick is to shift it when the clutch is engaged and you are moving. It goes easily from 2wd to 4wd and back again like this, but if you try to shift it while stopped and with the clutch pedal depressed, it won't go. If the shifter moves, but 4wd still won't engage, the problem is probably with the automatic locking hubs. These are activated by vacuum lines that are prone to breaking. Check that there is no leak at the vacuum solenoid (just forward of the master brake cylinder in the engine compartment), and then check the lines in the wheel wells. Replace any broken or defective lines. If 4wd still doesn't work, the problem may be with the automatic locking hubs themselves. These can be replaced with either replacement automatic hubs or manual hubs. Automatic hubs will restore shift on the fly capability, but the manual hubs are cheaper and more reliable because they don't rely on vacuum lines. You will however have to stop the vehicle and manually set the hubs every time you select 4wd. Good luck.
