The dog can't come out of the carrier at any time, I have tried and was scolded for it. The cost is $80 this year. You have to have a recent health certificate from your vet. Bring this with you upon check-in. Take your pet with you to the security area. Remove the pet from the carrier and carry it through the metal detector with you. The security will put the carrier through the detector, and you put your dog back in. When boarding the plane, you may board early usually because of the dog. You purchase your ticket for your dog at the counter. On your return flight, the same process is done. I have traveled bunches and bunches with my pets and never ran into a problem. You must notify the airlines that you are traveling with a pet and do this early during peak travel seasons. Airlines only allow so many pets to travel in the cabin area. If your dog is too large to travel in cabin, you can travel with the pet, but the pet must be place in the luggage compartment. Again, contact the airlines before making your plans. Some airlines do not allow pets to travel with the luggage during the summer months. It gets too hot traveling on the tarmack and pets tend to over heat and die.
