Best way to achieve a darker color on your skin without tanning is to use a self tanner.
yes, i used self tanner all through my pregnancy, doctor said that it was fine.
i think aveda makes the best self tanning lotion but its a bit expensive. i guess its still cheaper than tanning salon though. The best result I ever had was from going to a salon that also did the 'rubbing in' the self tanner-it looked the best, lasted the longest, and I had the least amount of 'leakage' onto my clothes. Jergens Natural Glow lotion or foam works really well and you get darker every time you use it and doesn't streak. The bad side is it doesn't smell that great, but no self-tanner does.
Laying under a tanning lamp or sun bed is definitely not a safe alternative to laying out in the sun. You should avoid this and use a self tanner because it causes cancer.
Self-tanner should only be applied to healthy, unbroken skin. If a person is allergic to any of the ingredients, they should not apply self-tanner. Indeed, it would be wise to do a small patch test, just to be sure there is no reaction before applying it over large areas.
Banana Boat is a great tanner that is available in most stores, and is reasonably priced. The quality is just as good as the more expensive brands too.
Nothing will completely block all UV light and stop you from tanning. An SPF will simply delay the amount of time it takes for you to receive MED's (minimal erythemal dosage). So in theory, a SPF 30 vs an SPF 8 will allow you to spend more time in the sun and delay the tanning process(by minimizing the penetration of UV light)
There are many self-tanning products that are preferred by women. If one is looking in a drugstore, Aveeno makes a good self-tanner, while Clarins makes a good one that is slightly pricier.
