This was a question my auto shop teacher asked my class back in 76, just what does the HD mean on a can (at that time, before bottles of oil) of oil.
Got many different possible answers, Heavy Duty, High Detergent, etc.
The correct answer is, absolutely nothing, or whatever the oil manufacturer wants it to mean.
any modern 30 weight oil will work fine in your lawnmower.
No ( according to the owners manual that came with my Ariens lawnmower ( with a Kohler engine ) SAE 30 if above 40* Fahrenheit SAE 10W-30 if below 40* Fahrenheit
NO, not in any lawnmower made in the last 40 years. Use SAE 30 or SAE 10W30 detergent oil.
Yes, sae30w oil is what's recommened.
Sae 30w
SAE 30 weight.
Almost all lawn mowers require SAE 30 oil.
SAE 30 is recommended for most small engines without an oil filter. 10w30 is recommended if the engine has a spin on filter.
SAE 10w30 all year round or SAE 30 if it is only used in the summer. Use 100% Synthetic oil in this air cooled engine.
SAE 30 non-detergent is recommended by most engine manufacturers but you can use synthetic 5w-30 for winter use.
No don't use 2 cylce in the crank case. You can use sae 30 or 10-30 but NOT 2 cycle as it is make to mix with gas and go in a gas tank - never in a crank case.
The manual recommends Lucas oil, which is what I use. I use the 30 oil, but you could use 10W-30. http://lucasoilstore.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=89&products_id=743&zenid=b07fc91b0f62e86b02a2bf116fa2f23d
If the manufacturer of the lawnmower specifies only SAE 30 then do not use SAE 10W-30. However on most mowers you can use either weight. I highly recommend you use synthetic oil in any air cooled engine.
