NEVER substitute cleaning/other products, especially the oil, for any instrument. It destroys it and ruins it. If you did that you would probably would need to take it to a repair shop. I have a Trumpet and i only use the best of the best stuff for cleaning it and taking care of it.

take out the tuning slide which is the one that the spit comes out of and take some of the slide grease and put it on, making sure it's rubbed in completely. Put the slide back on and push it in and out a few times so you can get the grease rubbed in. You should feel it getting easier to slide as you do this.

First, remember to hold down the valve before moving the slide. If you can get the slide off (by pulling gently), then I would suggest wiping off the slide and applying some slide grease. Note that this is not the same as valve oil. If you don't have slide grease, try asking a trombone player if you can borrow a little bit.If you still cannot get the slide to go all the way back in, take it to a repair shop. Never try to force one piece of an instrument into another - you risk doing permanent damage.

Remove the Valve Cap counter-clockwise, Fill the small reservoir with oil, Replace the cap counter-clockwise while the cap is upside down, paying close attention not to spill the reservoir. Turn the horn so that the valve cap faces up and work the oil into the valve by moving the key. Remove the slide(s) attached to the valve paying attention to press down the key and/or thumb key that it is attached to, Hold the instrument so that the open slide section's tubes face up, and drop oil down the slide directly onto the valve. Do not allow oil to drip down the sides of the slide. This is where the oil will drag dirt with it into the valve creating further difficulties, Replace the slide(s), pressing down the key(s) attached to it. If you do not press down the key(s) you will create pressure in the valve casing that may lock the valve up completely.
