Can you take Ibuprofen with penicillin and flucloxacillin?
Hi, i was told by my doctor that ibuprofen was fine to take with with my flucloxacillin.
Yes as long as you are not on any blood thinners (Coumadin/Warfarin, Lovenox, Heparin, etc...). Ibuprofen is an analgesic of the NSAID category. Augmentin (Amoxicillin w/ clavulanate) is an antibiotic of the Penicillin category. Warning: Do not take Ibuprofen or Augmentin if you have a history of bleeding disorders or are currently taking anticoagulants. Warning: Do not take Augmentin if you have a history of Penicillin allergies.
The cause for tonsillitis is either viral infections or streptococcal infection. You do not need antibiotic for viral infections. The bacteria which causes tonsillitis is streptococci. Streptococci practically never produce beta lactamase enzyme. Flucloxacillin is used to treat the beta lactamase producing bacteria. The antibacterial action of flucloxacillin itself is very less as compared to penicillin or ampicillin. So flucloxacillin for tonsillitis is a bad choice.
Obviously you should always confirm with your doctor, dentist, pharmacist first. Under normal circumstances Ibuprofen shouldn't be a problem, since it is not a blood thinner (as is acetomenophine). The problem researchers, scientists and doctors have tried to fight throughout the years is how to keep penicillin in your blood stream as long as possible. Penicillin V potassium doesn't get urinated as easily as its predecessors, hence the common twice a day dose. Anything that…
Yes you can take both paracetamol and flucloxacillin. There is no known significant interaction between either drugs and both can be taken together in moderation by following the recommended dose. As flucloxacillin starts to destroy the infection the pain will soon subside and paracetamol may be stopped. However flucloxacillin should be taken for the full duration of the treatment. Even if you are feeling better it is important to finish the antibiotic treatment course.
Ibuprofen is an over the counter (OTC) pain medication. That means you can buy it without a prescription. Codeine is a prescription medication in the United States. In the prescription medication Vicoprofen, Ibuprofen is combined with hydrocodone, which is a synthetic codeine (the prescription medicine found in Vicoden). Sulfa and penicillin are another class of medication altogether and would not be combined with Ibuprofen. That's not to say you cannot take them together if your…
