It may depend on the dosage. Lexapro is an SSRI. Amitriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant. Both of these kinds of medications work with serotonin, so usually only one will be used. However, tricyclic antidepressants are often used at low doses for preventative migraine therapy or chronic pain, rather than when used at higher doses for depression. Make sure you tell your prescribing doctors everything you are taking, and make sure to keep both your psychiatrist and headache specialist informed of any dosage changes to either medication.
Also make sure they are informed of any abortive migraine medications you are using, because the triptans also work with serotonin. And Ultram (generic: tramadol, with acetaminophen Ultracet) is a pain medication sometimes used for migraine pain partially works with serotonin as well.
