Yes. My mother didn't like it, but my teeth used to look like a sight from a Horror film and I was afraid my teeth would move!
Most people get retainers after braces to keep their teeth inline. However, some people wear retainers for straightening a particular tooth. For example I had to wear a retainer after getting a tooth taken out, to keep my teeth inline, allowing my second tooth to come through. After this I then got braces and then had to wear a retainer to keep them straight.
Yes. However, it's more likely that you'll get braces first for at least 6 months (half a year) and then get a retainer. Good luck! x
Braces are a band of metal that raps around your teeth and eventually make them straighter. You go once every month, they tighten them and you pick a new color. Don't worry braces don't hurt that bad, but you need to be careful with them and make sure you brush your teeth after every meal or snack because you could get yellow teeth when they take them off, puffy gums and food stuck in your braces! So when you get braces you just need to make sure you are careful to brush all the time.
Rather than removing teeth, my children were fitted with retainers that changed the shape of their upper palate to fit their teeth. We cranked the retainer a quarter turn every week for almost a year. This allowed the second row of teeth to realign and for others to come down as they should. At the end of that time, they could have had a short time with braces, but we decided that things looked great. that 'retainer' placed on the upper hard palate is actually called an expander. it literally breaks you maxilla bone, leaving room for more teeth and making it easier for braces.
Sure just make sure the retainer doesn't come free so you choke on it in the middle of the night.
yes
all kinds
You should be able to. I had general anesthesia during oral surgery while I had braces.
It depends on the orthodontist's opinion as to the growth of the jaw and the need for space. Sometimes pulling teeth provides more room for the teeth to come in correctly. My children had retainers that changed the shape of their palatte--wore them for a year and their teeth came in nicely. We rotated a screw on the retainer weekly. We skipped the braces after that.
Yes. It is important to wait until you get your braces off.
