It depends on what pill you are using, if you are on a "mini-pill" of only progesterone you need to take it every 24 hours give or take 1.5 hours on either side. Taking a mini-pill even 3 hours late is the same as missing a pill.

Taking most BCP, a combination of estrogen and progesterone - as long as you take it every day - you are protected from pregnancy.

yes, contraceptive pills affect pregnancy because the hormones in the pill, however, are synthetic and can have exaggerated side effects on some women. Some of the more common effects are the breakthrough bleeding does not mean that the pill isn't working as a contraceptive.

What can you use to stop an ongoing period?

I don't think you can stop your cycle. Its a natural thing. However there are ways you can lighten your period, I know that contraceptive (birth control) pills can delay your period for about a month (if its the "morning after pill") or if you're taking regular contraceptive pills then your period won't be as heavy or as long as the normal cycle. You should get a Doctor's opinion and also a prescrption from him/her if you want contraceptive pills as they are not sold over the counter except for "the morning after pill". If you go to the chemist or drug store you can get ONE morning after pill over the counter - Its usually not a problem although some chemists or drug stores ask you to fill in a form with your information and a reason why you want the pill so be prepared if you're going to opt for that. They probably won't sell it to you if you tell them you want to delay or lighten your period, so just say that your reason is you just want to be safe. Same as with your doctor if you want him to fill out a prescrption for contraceptive pills, don't tell him you want to lighten your period, just say you need contraceptive pills. This is just one way, I'm sure there are other ways to lighten your period but I doubt you can make it stop. All women go through it, its just a few days to a week of discomfort and ocassional pain, I guess you'll get used to it.

Is there a contraceptive pill that works 2 days?

The Morning After Pill does work. It is like a high dose of birth control. It is not a form of abortion. It works within five days of having unprotected sex. The progestin-only emergency contraceptive pills (Plan B One Step, Next Choice) reduce your risk of pregnancy by up to 95% if taken in the first 24 hours or by 88% when taken in the first 72 hours (3 days). They may have some effectiveness up to 120 hours after the accident, but reliable data for the time between 72 and 120 hours is not available.
